Every Great Story Starts with Breakfast

Simply Loved Wellness Collective

In the story of my life, breakfast has always been the constant thread — my mom fork-whisking soft eggs with green onions, bacon crackling, buttered toast waiting, and that too-hot tea for kids. That was her love language — quiet, intentional, magickal.

I must’ve inherited that rhythm. One day, sitting in cosmetology school, I heard laughter spilling out from the culinary lab next door — and something in me just knew. I dropped the scissors, picked up a spatula, and walked straight into my calling. It was a prophecy fulfilled.

I discovered I was naturally good at it — instinctive, fast, hungry to learn. I fell in love with the kitchen’s rhythm: the sizzle, the chaos, the teamwork. I spent a decade mastering elevated comfort food and helped our brunch spot earn Best Brunch in L.A. five years running. Drew Barrymore once told me my breakfast burrito was “a flavor explosion in her mouth.” Ryan Gosling called my lemonade “outtasight.” Kaley Cuoco invited me to make Thanksgiving dinner for her family, and Drew Carey personally called to rave about his grilled cheese.

But the truth is — those moments are fun sprinkles on top. The real magic happens when I’m cooking for my people — my kids, my friends, my neighbors. When I see someone relax over a plate of something made with love, that’s where I feel most alive.

When motherhood stripped me of all the titles that once defined me, food quietly rebuilt me. Breakfast and brunch became my anchors — the place where joy, creativity, and devotion always met.

Now, through Mi-Ri’s Table, I get to share that same warmth — that legacy — with everyone who walks through my door or picks up a plate.

So here’s to my mom, for those first soft eggs, for teaching me the power of resourcefulness, and for never letting us skip breakfast — the meal that taught me how to love, one bite at a time.

Come hungry. Leave pampered.
